Books I've Recently Read and Liked

Historical fiction is my favorite genre now. I've read lots about Rome and it was great to get the other perspective of the Second Punic war.

Anne Rice is awesome and her move from vampires, witches, mummys, etc. to writing the story of Jesus from the first person is brave and uplifting. I found her afterward in the first book, Out of Egypt, which gives some insight into her religious beliefs and motivations to write these books mostinspiring and interesting.

The Way of the Peaceful Warrior is one of my all time favorites I've reread several times. This prequel is as deep and maybe more entertaining. Again, I find myself wondering how much of the details are true.

I usually spend a fair amount of money buying books at Barnes and Noble, but all my recent reading has come from the library. Two notes on advertising. First, Barnes and Noble has stopped sending me discount coupons. In my case, I think these coupons really paid off in getting me to spend. Second, Amazon.com came up top for searches on all these books, except Way of the Peaceful Warrior

Your true home is in nothingness, in emptiness of all content. You face it most cheerfully when you go to sleep! Find out for yourself the state of wakeful sleep and you will find it quite in harmony with your real nature. Words can only give you the idea, and the idea is not the experience. All I can say is that true happiness has no cause, and what has no cause is immovable. Which does not mean it is perceivable, as pleasure. What is perceivable is pain and pleasure; the state of freedom from sorrow can be described only negatively.
